Savouring the journey: Bas-Saint-Laurent

Meredith savouring the journey

Savouring the journey continues with our culinary experiences in the Bas-Saint-Laurent. Enjoy!

Auberge du Chemin Faisant

Auberge du Chemin Faisant

Chef Hugues Massey is a culinary explorer. He’s excited about food and sharing his creations with his guests. The dining room is exquisite. Dinners are eight-course affairs with a focus on the fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. We unfortunately only had breakfast at the Inn. But what a breakfast! Fresh crepes stuffed with ham and local aged cheddar and smothered in local maple syrup. I licked my plate. Come for a stay at the Inn just for the meal.

Hotel Le Francis, Restaurant Le Francis. (Technincally in the Gaspésie region)

Hotel Le Francis

The dining room looks out onto the turquoise waters of the Little Matapedia River. They have an excellent mussels and Fries deal for two. It probably could have fed four people. With four different flavours to choose and a heap of food, it’s a scrumptious meal in a beautiful room for a great price.

Auberge La Chasse-Galerie

Auberge du Chasse Galerie

A lovely hotel with a restaurant known for its tapas. We arrived on a night when the restaurant was closed. Bummer! We did however enjoy a lovely breakfast in the tiny but beautiful dining room. Local products and a selection of homemade jams, strawberry rhubarb was our favourite, made this an excellent start to our day.

Auberge-du-Portage

Auberge du Portage

With floor to ceiling glass windows in the dining room, it’s a double pleasure that the food equals the stunning view. The food is fresh, in support of local products and beautifully presented. This hotel was a culinary treat.

Auberge du Mange Grenouille

Auberge du Mange Grenouille

An oasis in the town of Bic. The restaurant looks out onto the Saint-Lawrence-River and a rose garden. We sipped sparkling apple cider and breathed in the rose scented evening air. With a six course tasting menu, or a three course option, this restaurant is a culinary adventure. Stafford discovered snails! Tiny lanterns in the trees lit the way and as we walked back to our room after our exquisite meal I felt like I was in a fairy-tale.
