The Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse played a key role in the history of navigation on the St. Lawrence. Built in 1909, the existing lighthouse is the third to be erected on this site and the second tallest in Canada. The Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse celebrated its centennial in 2009.
Accompanied by an interpreter guide, climb to the top of this unusual structure and take in the view of the St. Lawrence. Discover the exhibitions in the lightkeeper’s house and foghorn shed.
Also visit the Onondaga, the first submarine open to the public in Canada, and the Empress of Ireland Museum, which commemorates the tragic sinking of the Empress of Irland ocean liner through a multimedia show as well as a large exhibition of artefacts rescued from the wreck.
Managed in partnership with the Pointe-au-Père Maritime Historic Site, this national historic site is a remarkable witness to our maritime past. The Onondaga submarine and Empress of Ireland Museum are right next to the lighthouse.
