Normand Latour has been a host at CBC/Radio-Canada for the past 30 years. He has lived in Western Canada and Toronto, and now calls the nation’s capital his home. He enjoys a solid reputation as a communicator, having worked in both radio and television.
Latour produces television reports primarily for the program C’est ça la vie
, which can be seen on CBC/Radio-Canada’s French network. This nature lover has become a keen observer of maritime life in Canada.
Located in an exceptional environment, the Jardin des Glaciers (Garden of the Glaciers) in Baie-Comeau is an integrated interpretation, exploration and research site focusing on phenomena associated with the last ice age. Normand Latour visited the Jardin des Glaciers in August 2009 and described his experience as amazing. He recommends spending more than one day there to take full advantage of all the activities offered. Here is what he had to say about his experience:Multimedia Zone
The Multimedia Zone is set up very professionally and the entire experience is a resounding success. When you leave this area, you realize what a huge impact the melting of the last continental glaciers had, some 20,000 years ago. However, it’s not enough to visit only this part of the Jardin des Glaciers. You need to visit the whole site. You simply cannot breeze through this place: there’s so much to see and learn!
Nature ZoneIn this area dedicated to guided tours, people can visit the Seashell Valley, which, as its name implies, is an immense valley filled with banks of seashells about 15 metres high; they were left behind by the retreating glaciers at the end of the last ice age. Another tour, Peoples of the Ice Age, allows visitors to discover what we owe to the nation’s first inhabitants and the many challenges they faced in their daily lives.
“The guides really pay attention to their visitors and take the time to help them fully understand the phenomena being observed. They shared their encyclopedic knowledge with us, and the subjects they broached shed light on many issues that are relevant in today’s context of global warming. All this takes place in a friendly and pleasant setting.
Adrenalin Zone
Visitors should take full advantage of what this site has to offer. All the activities seem really exciting! I saw many enthusiastic people really enjoying themselves in the Adrenalin Zone. On the via ferrata, one mother, who was a little apprehensive, eventually completed the course with the encouragement of her family—and bystanders. With so many activities to choose from, such as zip lines, kayaking and hiking, there is truly something for everyone.
When people travel so far to visit an attraction, it can’t afford to be boring. The Jardin des Glaciers (Garden of the Glaciers) in Baie-Comeau had no choice but to be successful, and it has risen to the challenge. In my opinion, it’s a complete success!
